| Oded Davidson, one of Israel's leading silversmiths, opened his first studio twenty years ago in a small, cobblestone street opposite the old city walls. The atmosphere of Jerusalem, spiritual and physical has always profoundly influenced his work. Not long after setting up his first studio he immediately began to teach Davina the skills of silver-smithing & illustrative sketching. For 25 years they have been working together, with Oded remaining the prime designer of the team. With each and every piece, Oded has attempted and achieved a goal that he set for himself many years ago - to express in his Judaica, Jewish thought and customs in silver in a totally original, yet still traditional, manner. That he has succeeded in this goal is evident in his work, which speaks eloquently for itself. You will find that many of Oded's pieces have Jewish history, Midrash, scenes from the Bible and quotations from Jewish sources incorporated into them. Both Oded & Davina have made a point of studying the wealth of Jewish sources, and in every possible way they have called the wealth of Jewish teachings into their art. But their art is not only unmistakably Jewish, it is also unmistakably Oded's design. Their work is renowned not only for the unique and beautiful designs but also for the flawless workmanship. Oded has exhibited his Judaica in Museums throughout Israel and in America, including The Wolfson Museum in the Main Synagogue in Jerusalem; The Spertus Museum of Chicago; The Beth Shalom Museum in Roslynd New York; The Jewish Museum in Melbourne, and his work is sought after by collectors of Judaica all over the world. |
